The Split Rock Lamps developed from a trip to the Alabama Hills in Inyo County, CA, a landscape of spheroidal boulders and natural arches carved by wind and water. Camping among these monoliths became a study of tactile beauty, motivating us to translate these ideas into our woodworking practice; just as wind and water smooth rocks, a hand guiding a chisel smooths wood, creating refined, organic shapes.

Each Split Rock Floor Lamp is made from premium, sustainable hardwood and hand-turned on a lathe. The inside of the lamp is carved and burned using a traditional Japanese method called Shou Sugi Ban. The lamp connects via mortise-and-tenon joinery, with a hand-turned wood dowel on top and two brass dowels. The lampshade is the Bonnet Shade by Twenty One Tonnes, handwoven from Elephant grass. The stem and socket are made from raw brass, and the cord is cloth-covered wire.

Standard wood options are walnut, ash, or camphor. Other woods are available upon request. Cord color is customizable. Free delivery to the greater Los Angeles area. For shipping rates, inquire here.
